Leeds Bradford Airport, Leeds

We were asked to provide a aesthetically pleasing yet economical solution to the watch tower as it is the central visual point to the airport. The Client asked for three coats of masonry paint and any metal work being painted in a primer, undercoat and gloss in a contrasting colour. Whilst carrying out the works, there were various preparation involved, particularly to the concrete structure that we needed to repair. Although easy to paint, it was a long planning process with the varying safety and security issues given where the works were carried out.

The Royal Loft Apartments, Sowerby Bridge

The client approached us to carry out the painting and decorating to the block of apartments. It was a self specification job and due to the nature of the British weather we opted to use an oil based masonry paint for the walls and oil based gloss for the windows and doors. In addition, the client didn’t have any preference for colours and just wanted to make the exterior look nice.  As such, we used a light grey with a contrasting dark grey to highlight any trims around the building.  The works were carried out on fixed scaffolding due to the height and location of the building. The gable of the building was used by trained operatives using a truck mounted vehicle.

The Old Royal Infirmary, Halifax

We were asked to provide a quotation along with other Dulux Contract partners for the prestigious housing development. After the submission of our tender, we were shortlisted to attend an interview with various members of the clients’ committee. Along with viewing our safety documentation and information on the proposed welfare facilities, we were successfully awarded the contract.

The works consisted of painting windows and doors, fascia’s and rendered areas using the Dulux Weathershield system. These were carried out using, ladders, step-ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic lifts. For the scaffolding works, we used a local scaffolding company who had to provide their insurance documentation, risk assessments and method statements. In addition, the lift was used for the high level areas by our IPAF operatives. Throughout the project, we hit various stumbling blocks but with careful liaison with the client and the project manager, these were easily rectified.

Furthermore, the Dulux specifier, regularly attended site to make sure we were using the right paints and to the right quality. All works were handed back over o the client to a very high standard.

Leeds Bradford Airport, Leeds

We were approached by the client (Leeds Bradford Airport) to provide a tender to remove the existing paint as it contained lead and to apply three coats of a suitable paint that would last between 15-20 years. Due to the nature of the life span, “traditional” undercoat and gloss paint would not suffice so we had to commence due diligence with our extensive list of contacts and technical service departments. Following these consultations, we decided to use Nitromors to remove the paint and a self priming two-pack Hempel product. (https://home/sites/15b/f/f44c9a9225/public_html.hempel.co.uk/en-GB/about-hempel)

We carried out the works using two tower scaffolding (erected by PASMA operatives) and a small hydraulic lift (driven by an IPAF operative). Due to the locality of the works, we had to work closely with the client to help work around their needs, ie bus drop offs, closure of doors. The works were carried out to a strict deadline due to the busy Easter holiday period which we managed to achieve. Working closely with the client helped the job run smoothly.

Dean Clough Mills, Halifax

Over the last 10 years we have been successful in obtaining works directly for the client on a tendered basis. These works have consisted of painting the exterior of various mills in the Dean Clough complex. These have ranged from painting windows, to painting the steel work on the top of one of the mills. These have been carried out using ‘traditional paints’ with extensive preparation.

To carry out these works, we have had to work closely with the client to organise various access issues and to arrange the windows to be open at a given time. Work has been carried out on various forms of access. These have been from a cradle (often a cheaper alternative to scaffolding or hydraulic lifts), scaffolding (where the roof was too weak for a cradle) and hydraulic lifts (where a cradle or scaffolding were not effective)

We have the knowledge and expertise to carry all major works and can often find a practical solution to any potential problems.

National Trust – Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge

What we did : Painted the windows inside and out on Gibson complex, doors, gutters and fallpipes. We also painted the lodge and Hollins mill and barn that form part of Hardcastle crags in Hebden Bridge, Halifax.

The windows were painted using the clients specification, three coats of the Sikkens Rubbol Range (http://home/sites/15b/f/f44c9a9225/public_html.sikkens-wood-coatings.co.uk/en/world-of-colours/collections/rubbolr-collection.html). The windows needed extensive preparation using caulk and two pack filler due to the locality of the windows (humidity and near the lake/river) and previous application. The windows on the main mill could be removed and painted internally and then put back into position.

How we did it : Using ladders, step ladders, mobile tower platform assembled by operatives with PASMA certificate, Truck mounted hydraulic lift using an IPAF operative.

Holiday Inn, Leeds M1 Junction 40

We were asked by the client to come and have a look at their premises to get a price to paint over their cladding. The cladding was a copper finish that had discoloured to green over time. Generally this is not something, you come across everyday so we needed to seek advice off one of our suppliers.

Johnstones paint through their specification team recommended that we use Quick drying Zinc phosphate primer (http://home/sites/15b/f/f44c9a9225/public_html.johnstonestrade.com/products/product-display/quick-dry-zinc-phosphate-primer.aspx) followed by two coats of either eggshell or gloss paint. Upon instruction, the client wanted an eggshell finish. The works were carried out from ladders and using a truck mounted vehicle to reach the most awkward areas.

YPO

The client approached us to provide a quotation for their exterior cladding. After this quotation was approved, we had to work closely with the client to get a colour that they were happy with. They wanted a colour that matched their branding but the only colour they had was a pantone colour which is difficult to obtain in paints. After numerous sample pots were used, they agreed on the colour above (purple) for the cladding and a yellow colour for the doors. The client opted to use Crown Trade protective cladding paint (http://home/sites/15b/f/f44c9a9225/public_html.crowntrade.co.uk/product/exterior-products/crown-trade-protective-coatings-fast-drying-cladding-finish/) which is a water based product with a lifespan of up to 8 years. The high level works were carried by our IPAF operatives on both scissor lifts and hydraulic lifts. Throughout the project we had to liaise with the transport manager to make sure we were working around their requirements.
